A little about me…
In 2016 I followed a man to London, my handsome fiancé, my lover of ten years, to pursue the fairytale dream of happily ever after. He, I believed, was my Mr Darcy. Spoiler alert, he wasn’t. Before moving continents, I actually had a pretty exciting life. Starting my career with only the clothes I borrowed from my mother, I built a successful, celebrated, 25-year business as owner and Executive Producer of Imported Artists Film Co. We produced thousands of television commercials and longer format programming worldwide and won hundreds of awards, including Cannes Lions and a Gemini (Canada’s equivalent of the Emmy’s). I also had the great honour of opening the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) with my feature film, Genie Award-winning Fugitive Pieces, adapted from the award-winning novel by Anne Michaels. I’m the recipient of the prestigious Women in Film and Television’s Crystal Award for Excellence in Production. #humblebrags. I am the proud mother of two daughters, Samantha, a fabulous young filmmaker and Charlotte, a model and social influencer who gets more views by brushing her eyebrows with a toothbrush than most BBC programming.I have an incredible appetite for travel, life, and whatever makes me laugh, and I enjoy sharing my single-girl insights as I explore all aspects of what makes life worth living. Because in the words of one of my favourite authors Dr Seuss, “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”

In Search of Mr. Darcy by Christina Ford chronicles the author's journey from her upbringing in an immigrant family to her tumultuous relationships, career, and the complexities of single parenthood. She marries Brandon, finds professional success post-divorce, and then endures a difficult marriage with Jackson. Next up is John, a relationship that comes with parenting trials, postpartum battles, and infidelity. A tumultuous year follows, and the divorce with John is laden with animosity and financial disputes. Seeking solace in therapy, Christina has a one-night stand with Noah and dips a toe into modern dating. Her involvement with Edward, a British compliance officer, leads to a love affair. As Christina turns fifty, she reshapes her life, facing personal losses, identity discovery, international travel and moves, and even Burning Man.
Christina Ford uses Dickensian metaphors and Austenian promises to breathe literary life into relationships that began with romantic ideals but ended in disillusionment in her book In Search of Mr. Darcy. Christina's memoir provides a candid exploration of dating in later years, and she uses humor to balance some of the difficulties, especially when it comes to re-entering the dating scene each time the last relationship ends. I especially enjoyed Christina's perspective on the changing climate of dating and found her hilarious take on online dating, wherein she describes the art of swiping a “Man Menu," relatable and authentic. As an American woman who packed up and moved to London for a man myself, I was able to connect with Christina uniquely. The writing is conversational and exceptionally well done, and I think this book will resonate with readers who enjoy the likes of Bridget Jones's Diary but with an additional layer of spice that only a true story can deliver. Very highly recommended.
